We want to say a huge “Thank you” to our street style photographer Valentine Avoh who braved the cold in Milan this weekend to take some great pictures of some of the stylish people who attended the menswear fashion shows.   We love spotting street trends and stay up to date on what pieces the fashion pack have been rocking lately.  To see Valentine’s selection of fashionistas check out the album on our facebook fan page.

Fashion week is over but that hasn’t stopped our brave contemporary womenswear buyers exploring all the latest tradeshows to bring you the hottest pieces in streetwear next season.  Our unsung heroes took on the biggest tradeshows from New York to Paris where they scoured the stands and came back with armfulls of new designers for you to discover.  ”New York was full of young and funky designers with some great new talent from L.A. that we loved” said Ania, our head of contemporary womenswear, when we quizzed her about what to look out for.  Flares and billowing shirts were all the rage in New York apparently and over in Paris there were lots of fab handcrafted details to add that perfect finishing touch to your 70s inpired look.

Stay tuned for more from  New York, Paris, Milan and London as we hunt for the latest street trends after the fashion weeks are over.

Many a famous figure has been mesmerized by the city of lights and gone on to make fashion history in what is undeniably one of the most dazzling capitals in Europe.  During our time backstage this fashion week we asked some of the front row guests, top model Ajak Deng and up and coming designers Damir Doma and Burak Uyan what it is about this city that makes it so special, unique and chic.

The Italians are famous for their style and Milan during fashion week is when the city’s streets are filled with lovals making sure that they look their best.  Being Italian an all, we wanted to make sure that we got a great mix of insiders and style experts to tell us what it is that they love about this traditional meets modern and always oh so glamorous style that has become so famous throughout the world.  Watch our video from backstage, outside the shows and talking to the likes of Giovanna Battaglia, Tommy Ton, Jo Elvin, Chiara Ferragni and Anna dello Russo about why italians do it better!

New, exciting, colourful and experimental are just some of the adjectives we heard used to describe the explosion of self expression that was visible on the streets outside the SS2012 shows during London Fashion Week.  The english capital is famous for being a hot house for young designers who enjoy to push boundaries and create perhaps more eccentric collections than those shown at other fashion weeks.  Watch our round up of some of our favourite looks from the week as we asked people who live in this vibrant city, what exactly is it that makes London so special?

New York has long been home to many a style icon, the city is nearly always named by bloggers and style reporters as their favourite place to scour the streets for inspiration.   So, whilst in Manhattan for fashion week we couldnt resist asking celebs and natives what they thought made the city so special and for a few of their own special tips on dressing the part.

Cycling is the quick and easy option to get around many cosmopolitan cities, what better way to enjoy the summer weather and  get from one side of the city to the other than on a bike! Many a style shot has been taken by the likes of The Sartorialist and Tommy Ton of fashionista’s on their two wheeled choice of transport and obviously they didn’t escape the attention of Phillip Lim either who has made this wonderful video with his new fall/winter collection.  The video is beautifully shot and should be a must watch for anyone who wants a quick tip on chic cycling etiquette!

Fashion and nature:  How fashion got inspired by nature

From the fashion greats such as Alexander McQueen who was inspired by the birds of prey that lived near his childhood home in the east end of London, to the great fabric mills of Italy and Britain inspired by their surrounding landscapes, nature has always been an important inspiration to the fashion and clothing industry.

Even today, when fabrics can easily be made to replicate natural fibres, wools, cashmeres, silks and exotic leathers are used and greatly appreciated by fashion designers and their customers for their quality and luxurious finish.

Flowers and jungle prints.

Animal prints are a signature favourite for designers such as the late Yves Saint Laurent, Miuccia Prada and the current creative directors at Givenchy, Prada and Roberto Cavalli who frequently use leopardskin and snakeskin prints. And this is not just for womenswear.

Current collections by Givenchy and Cavalli allow men to make bold style statements with animal prints: the more confident the wearer, the better the garment looks.

We are all animals after all and just as our ancestors wore animal skins and hides not just to keep warm but also show what tribe they were part of, so the trend continues today!

colourb.jpg We spotted some wonderful pops of bright colour around the shows in London. The flashes of bright hues certainly lifted our spirits and made us realise that despite the gloomy english weather, spring is just around the corner!
