The release of the hotly tipped and long awaited, Jay-Z and Kanye West album “Watch the Throne” is almost upon us and with tour dates for the USA already released, we have to say that we loved watching the behind the scenes documentary of the two hip hop legends recording in different locations all over the world.

The 10minute short includes guest appearances from Beyoncé and Russell Crowe (who knew that they were friends?!)  as we get glimpses of the two at work in the studio, relaxing and chatting over dinner, how cosy!  Not only were we impressed to find out that even Kanye goes digging around the friperie in Paris (props on that big rock that you found Mr West!) but it’s also got us excited about the Givenchy T-Shirts designed by Riccardo Tisci to match the album artwork.  The T-Shirts, from the Fall/Winter 2011 collection, work in this season’s raging rotweillers as well as adding a touch of the baroque to match the “Watch the Throne” album cover also designed by Tisci.  The album’s due out from August 1st and is sure to sell like hot cakes, we don’t want to say the same for the T-Shirts but we know that we’re not going to wait to get ours!

We love this behind the scenes video from the set of the latest Roberto Cavalli womenswear campaign photo shoot.  Showcasing the collections dark, gothic tinged vibe in a beautiful, natural setting, watch the stunning Natasha Poly, Karen Elson and Mariacarla Boscono rock flowing transparent layers of signature Cavalli print that have been given a new lease of life for F/W 2011/12 by cult stylist Panos Yiapanis.  This Autumn we want to play in the leaves in one of those head turning pieces!

Ever elegant and down-to-earth, Kate Middleton has been working her versatile travel wardrobe to the full whilst on the Royal Tour in Canada. Having been spotted wearing her favorite J Brand jeans out and about on numerous visits this week, she reworked them with a smart blazer, feminine ruffled blouse and wedges for a casual yet chic and polished look.

Sharp tailoring and hints of the military inspired have been catwalk staples for the past few seasons, this Fall/Winter however they were updated with a focus on paired down, sharper tailoring and more refined shapes. These pieces were used to contrast against the very ethereal loose and transparent silhouette that we saw on the runways last season and mixed with eye catching accessories to give each look a truly unique feel. Using the new, nautical accents from the Fall/Winter runways, Shot in secret locations in the heart of Florence, inspired by the epic voyages of pirates, explorers and sailors,we created a story using some of the coming season’s key pieces. Here, we introduce you to the characters of our story and explain a little more about how they worked the trend each in their own personal way.

The Captain, marching the corridors in an Alexander Mcqueen double-breasted coat, added a touch of glam to the proceedings in shimmering sequined trousers by n°21 and laced-up Gianvito Rossi boots. In order to pull rank, the look was finished with a captain’s hat by Hugo Pratt for Corto Maltese.

The enchanting First-mate worked transparent pieces and colourful details in to her look to give this season’s take on the nautical trend a softer and more feminine feel. In an open naval Balmain jacket adorned in gold ribbon braiding, fur shawl by Simonetta Ravizza, we added a risqué transparent silk chiffon MSGM shirt, Alexander McQueen leggings and completed the look with a flash of colour using a pair of electric-blue suede Giuseppe Zanotti platforms.

Channeling Ann Demeulemeester‘s, William Blake inspired, poetic silhouette, the Explorer glided through the dungeons wearing bold gauntlets, Baiba Ripa necklace, vests buttoned high against bare skin and cutaway jackets teamed with powerful triple-laced combat boots.

The Voyager’s Balmain Military jacket is embellished with a Milius by Milan pin, and enhanced by Givenchy‘s fierce Rottweiler t-shirt, Ann Demeulemeester‘s polished leather trousers and Roberto Cavalli‘s destroyed leather boots for a powerful masculine look.

Finally in our story we have the cast away Pirate who added a racier element to our sea faring theme, clad in a red leather and wool jumpsuit by Amaya Arzuaga and a destroyed leather jacket by Tuesday Night Band Practice, we used leather accessories by Givenchy and Fleet Ilya to get the perfect castaway feel and evoke the sensation of new nautical adventures.

Our buyers have been reporting back to LVR HQ about the latest Bread & Butter trade show in Berlin.  Bread & Butter has become one of the biggest, and most important, events for contemporary street wear labels with big brands creating amazing installations to entertain the crowds of fashionistas that head there each year.  So far, we have been hearing reports of pretty pastels, eco friendly denim and flares being the trends to watch out for in the coming season.  Now, our buyers have now trekked through the Diesel desert (with custom palm trees of course!) and dipped their toes in the Tommy Hilfiger swimming pool in order to send us some pics from the event and give you a taste of what is in store from some of fashions most exciting streetwear labels, enjoy!

We spotted Usher outside the S/S 2012 Givenchy Menswear Show in Paris rocking a tone on tone leopard print suit from the  Spring/Summer 2011 collection.  The  R’n'B singer worked the fierce print whilst showing us how it is possible to maintain your cool in the summer heat!

Fashion and nature:  How fashion got inspired by nature

From the fashion greats such as Alexander McQueen who was inspired by the birds of prey that lived near his childhood home in the east end of London, to the great fabric mills of Italy and Britain inspired by their surrounding landscapes, nature has always been an important inspiration to the fashion and clothing industry.

Even today, when fabrics can easily be made to replicate natural fibres, wools, cashmeres, silks and exotic leathers are used and greatly appreciated by fashion designers and their customers for their quality and luxurious finish.

Flowers and jungle prints.

Animal prints are a signature favourite for designers such as the late Yves Saint Laurent, Miuccia Prada and the current creative directors at Givenchy, Prada and Roberto Cavalli who frequently use leopardskin and snakeskin prints. And this is not just for womenswear.

Current collections by Givenchy and Cavalli allow men to make bold style statements with animal prints: the more confident the wearer, the better the garment looks.

We are all animals after all and just as our ancestors wore animal skins and hides not just to keep warm but also show what tribe they were part of, so the trend continues today!

The menswear fashion weeks in Paris and Milan have two different, distinct vibes and despite much debate we just cannot decide which we love more! Both cities play host to important, historic fashion brands who show us outstanding collections each season.  So,  we figured the best thing to do would be to put it to the test by going backstage.  Watch our videos from behind the scenes and let us know, which city gets your vote?

There are many reasons why we love the impeccable french institution that is Lanvin, not least because they welcomed us into the beautiful setting for their Spring/Summer 2012 menswear show with coffee, cookies, muffins and donuts! This wonderful label, with Alber Elbaz at the helm, has earned itself a formidable reputation as one of the top names in luxury fashion. We spoke to the legendary Diane Pernet outside the show about what makes their menswear line so special.

Watch the “Less and More” Dior Homme Spring/Summer 2012 and come backstage with us as we talk to the hair team and models.
