The unique snug fit of J Brand’s jeans is simply inimitable and has earned the brand a legion of loyal fans including a cult celebrity following,. We are happy to see Elle Macpherson and Jessica Alba rocking their Gigi cropped denims in style. Either dressed down with a checked shirt or vamped up with big sunglasses and strong jewellery, these jeans are completely adaptable making them an essential style staple for every fashion savvy girl about town.
Nick Knight’s SHOWstudio keeps leading the way for new media within the fashion industry, so we weren’t surprised to see their name appear on Gareth Pugh‘s ground breaking video presentation for his Spring/Summer 2011 collection.
The video, directed by Ruth Hogben, was projected in Paris during fashion week, instead of Pugh having a traditional catwalk show. According to the designer, “[film] enables me to regain total artistic and creative freedom. I feel very strongly that Fashion Film should not be seen as a secondary medium to live catwalk events, but as a modern alternative.”
The video is definitely akin with Pugh’s core aesthetic, encapsulating his futuristic, streamlined style and experimental use of unorthodox and groundbreaking materials; this season there was silicone coated jersey and heavy rubberised PVC as well as hand cut super reflective silver! The designer described the collection as “a leap of faith: I was determined to do something pure and focused, while remaining true to my roots and where I began in design.” Pugh’s boundary pushing collection is perfectly suited to projection in video and his experimentation with new media is surely something that other designers will now begin to experiment with….we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more!
Leopard print seems to be a trend that just will not budge. It’s almost turning into a season staple as it appeared again on the S/S 2011 runways! Just a flash of the print can add a racey detail to any look but we love it when designers vamp it up to the max. We spotted a great vest with fringe edging by Le Cuir Perdu in both Vogue and Grazia and we couldn’t resist sharing! The experimental young label is right on the rock and roll edge with this number and we can’t wait to dress it up with some leather trousers for a night out or match it with some jeans to add a bit of a glam groupie edge to our Saturday brunch time! Either way the label’s use of both fringing and leopard print mean that this versatile piece will be fashion forward all the way into next year.
The men’s boot trend is taking fall by storm! Perfect with this season’s chunky knits and checked flannel shirts they are the perfect finishing touch for those autumnal strolls à deux. Luckily, we have a whole range of men’s boots to choose from! But which do you prefer? From rustic to classic from rugged to chic…we just can’t decide!
Tonight we’re going to be slipping into some of our favourite Roberto Cavalli numbers to celebrate the labels 40th Anniversary! AUGURI to the Cavalli’s and keep those flamboyant prints and the rock infused glam coming….like all those jet setters, celebs and fashionistas worldwide….we just can’t get enough!
We all know how important the September issues are in the world of fashion magazines, so congratulations to OTT, one of our up and coming designers, as they were featured on the cover of Elle this month. We love their bright collection and can’t wait to use their scarves to add a touch of colour this winter.
The British Fashion Awards for 2010 were announced last night on the terrace at Soho House. We are so happy for (in order of appearance!) David Koma, Erdem (pictured here with vogue editor Alex Shulman in one of the designers latest creations forA/W), as well as Mary Katrantzou and Michael Van Der Ham who were all nominated for awards. Van Der Ham and Ms Katrantzou are both up for the Emerging Talente Ready To Wear award along with another favourite of ours; Meadham Kirchoff. We also like the look of the Best Accessories Designer category that includes, Camilla Skovgaard, NIcholas Kirkwood and Emma Hill for Mulberry…we have our fingers crossed for you all. Is it possible to want everyone to win! That’s including you Christopher Kane, Erdem and Phoebe Philo (the creative genius behind the revamp of Celine) who are all in the running for Designer of the Year award.
Fashion and cinema have a long history together and recently we’ve been noticing a real trend among some of our favourite young designers as many are making a little foray into the world of cinema. First we reported on the Proenza Schouler boys up and coming project and then we saw this little goodie from Alexander Wang shot as part of his A/W campaign. “We’re always striving to communicate the frame of mind behind the collection, whether it’s through our show or imagery, but this season we got to delve much deeper,” Wang told style.com. We have to agree we always love to get a glimpse into the designer’s inspiration and love seeing those gorgeous clothes up there on the silver screen.
When we saw the new Christian Louboutin adverts we thought there was a little bit of wonderland in their charm. The surreal images caught our attention and with their amazing, realities that the designer has chosen to showcase his beautiful new range.
