Although Gareth Pugh opted for a fashion show with catwalk, in the traditional sense, the results were still no less spectacular. In fact, after two seasons of watching the designer’s work in the form of boundary pushing films, it was exciting to see his unique mixture of materials storming the runway again. Using not only his signature black, Pugh also used flashes of cobalt blue and gold, two colours that were also seen in his precollection, to give a fresh feel to his work. The silhouettes that he used also seemed more defined and as if the designer is finally making more headway trying to find a balance between his own creativity and commercial viability. The collection seemed very wearable and the huge wedged heels reinforced Pugh’s “polished punk” style that had a lot of the audience transfixed as the likes of Karlie Kloss marched down the runway to the thumping techno music.

Posted by in Follow The Buyers | Front Row: Contemporary Designers - (Comments Off)Gareth Pugh was in our store yesterday and we were lucky enough to catch the amazing, young designer and ask him a few questions about his new collection and the future of fashion blogging.
Later on that day we excitedly went to the historic church of Orsan Michele, in the centre of Florence,to see the latest pre collection installation video Gareth created with Ruth Hogben. The church looked amazing in candlelight, with 360° views of the city outside, guests watched the video projected onto the ceiling. Contrasting the designer’s bold and groundbreaking style with the medieval surroundings, Pugh used materials ranging from silks and chiffons to metallic leathers in cobalt blue, gold and black colours to juxtapose fluid shapes with rigid geometry and the effects were truly amazing.

Nick Knight’s SHOWstudio keeps leading the way for new media within the fashion industry, so we weren’t surprised to see their name appear on Gareth Pugh‘s ground breaking video presentation for his Spring/Summer 2011 collection.
The video, directed by Ruth Hogben, was projected in Paris during fashion week, instead of Pugh having a traditional catwalk show. According to the designer, “[film] enables me to regain total artistic and creative freedom. I feel very strongly that Fashion Film should not be seen as a secondary medium to live catwalk events, but as a modern alternative.”
The video is definitely akin with Pugh’s core aesthetic, encapsulating his futuristic, streamlined style and experimental use of unorthodox and groundbreaking materials; this season there was silicone coated jersey and heavy rubberised PVC as well as hand cut super reflective silver! The designer described the collection as “a leap of faith: I was determined to do something pure and focused, while remaining true to my roots and where I began in design.” Pugh’s boundary pushing collection is perfectly suited to projection in video and his experimentation with new media is surely something that other designers will now begin to experiment with….we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more!

William Martin-Genier could not be missed at the Luisa Via Roma “Firenze 4 Ever” event, with impeccable style and a royal blue Yves Saint Laurent “Easy Bag” in tow, even in a fashion crowd William makes an impact.
It’s the same story on Mr. Martin-Genier’s blog Bulletproof Stilettos. The one thing that you will instantly notice upon a visit is that William has an aesthetic carved out and adheres to it with complete conviction. From show coverage to editorial inspiration, and personal style, it is all in sync with one another.
Selecting to work with a carefully curated rail of Rick Owens, Gareth Pugh and Rad Hourani Fall Winter 2010 pieces. William whipped up some elegant, luxe and memorable looks.

It wasn’t just the big grin and the cryptic riddles that made us crazy for the Cheshire Cat…he obviously has great taste too! The amazing Gareth Pugh full length stripes add a gothic touch, just like Tim Burton, and those hypnotic colours send us into a spin when teamed with a beautiful pair of Louboutins.

Fashion designer Gareth Pugh creates a dress in the Live Studio space; and he will also be taking questions!
20, 23, and 24 November 2009, 11:00-18:00 GMT

On friday we were glued to watching the first day of Mr Pugh working around his temporary studio and answering questions about the dress he’s making LIVE for ShowStudio. We were thinking that the interactive look into the creative process of one of fashions hottest young talents is the best idea Nick Knights innovative fashion team have had so far….bring on the popcorn!
Answering questions about everything from his inspirations and latest work to where he got his very wonderful dark nail varnish (it was especially made for his last show by manglaze) we’ll be tuning in for the last two days 23/11 and 24/11 to watch his developments and ask for a few pointers…or maybe just even get him play us something we want to hear from his ipod selection.
