The rat pack crooning by the pool at a modernist house in Palm Springs was the setting that Derek Lam gave us for his latest collection.  Elegant tailored pieces were paired with  resort ready knits and bright, bold prints in a clever way so that the classic cuts gave the collection a demure feel despite the bright colours and quirky details.  Shimmering dresses interspersed through the show revved up the glamour and showed us that even by the pool side, in Derek Lam’s world, relaxed, sporty pieces can be given a timeless, chic edge.

As we were reading the latest edition of the savoirflair.com magazine, we spotted our womenswear buyer Silvano Vangi with his latest tips for Fall/Winter 2011 and what to look out for.

We love his idea of a quick  update for any Fall/Winter wardrobe, with one of the Burberry Prorsum colorful coats that have already been featured in a slew of the September editorials.  Not only can you pop one on to give your look an instant lift for the coming season, they’re also great versatile pieces for the changeable weather autumn so often brings.

Silvano’s must have is the fab Rick Owens crocodile skin biker jacket. The cult cut has had all of us in LVR HQ swooning for seasons, now combined with this precious skin, it is perfect for the season’s exotic skin trend that has been used to turn heads on everything from heels to handbags.

Stay tuned for some of the new brands we’ll be featuring in the coming season, as Mr Vangi mentioned a few like Raoul and Mugler we have more to come and we’ll also be bringing more tips from him and the team as well as a few special guests this Fall/Winter….

Our buyers have been reporting back to LVR HQ about the latest Bread & Butter trade show in Berlin.  Bread & Butter has become one of the biggest, and most important, events for contemporary street wear labels with big brands creating amazing installations to entertain the crowds of fashionistas that head there each year.  So far, we have been hearing reports of pretty pastels, eco friendly denim and flares being the trends to watch out for in the coming season.  Now, our buyers have now trekked through the Diesel desert (with custom palm trees of course!) and dipped their toes in the Tommy Hilfiger swimming pool in order to send us some pics from the event and give you a taste of what is in store from some of fashions most exciting streetwear labels, enjoy!

The menswear fashion weeks in Paris and Milan have two different, distinct vibes and despite much debate we just cannot decide which we love more! Both cities play host to important, historic fashion brands who show us outstanding collections each season.  So,  we figured the best thing to do would be to put it to the test by going backstage.  Watch our videos from behind the scenes and let us know, which city gets your vote?

There are many reasons why we love the impeccable french institution that is Lanvin, not least because they welcomed us into the beautiful setting for their Spring/Summer 2012 menswear show with coffee, cookies, muffins and donuts! This wonderful label, with Alber Elbaz at the helm, has earned itself a formidable reputation as one of the top names in luxury fashion. We spoke to the legendary Diane Pernet outside the show about what makes their menswear line so special.

Watch the “Less and More” Dior Homme Spring/Summer 2012 and come backstage with us as we talk to the hair team and models.

We spotted this stylish man outside the latest John Galliano Spring/Summer 2012 menswear show and couldn’t resist posting a picture as he so perfectly illustrates how to work those difficult oversized pants with shorter top layers.  He also manages to pull off a laid back style with an elegant twist in a rather nonchalant way, which is much easier said than done!

Here’s our suggestion for how to create this look:

There was a beautifully calm atmosphere backstage before the Kris Van Assche show as the designer chatted with the stylists and hairdressers and watched the model run through, he even said, that as a consistent worker, at this late stage there were no last minute alterations or changes that he wanted to make. This precise sense of vision is echoed in the designer’s clear aesthetic and this season was no exception.  Still inspired by the LA boys that are making their transition from cool kid to manhood, this time Kris Van Assche presented them with a range of suits that they could wear whilst retaining their infectious, relaxed style.  With more of a 60s mod edge, the silhouette retained the cropped, long rise pants and chunky shoes but was sharpened up a little with slim shirts and flashes of colour that gave the collection a lively edge and broke up the black and grey hues.

A theme that has been working it’s way into many of the menswear collections for Spring/Summer 2012 is the up coming olympic games.  The theme of olympic man was something that Andreas Kronthaler, who helped design the latest collection, had researched and looked into.  Talking to numerous atheletes, the designer added various practical details into the collection that managed to span from very casual to signature Westwood deconstructed tailored suits and trousers.

Backstage with the gorgeous boys at the Roberto Cavalli Menswear show in Milan we asked them what they love about this utterly italian label’s style and took a peek behind the scenes as everyone got ready for the Spring/Summer 2012 show.
